A Long Distance God

John 4:50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

This past week I’ve spent hours on the phone, which is not unusual for a pastor. A number of those conversations have been over great distances. At one point I was on a conference call with two dear colleagues in the Lord’s work. One was in another country. Modern technology gives us, in a limited way, the ability to be in multiple places at one time. But if we want to meet physically we must travel.

This nobleman had to travel for a day to speak with Jesus. Then he wanted Jesus to physically make a “house call” and come home with him. We are so accustomed to our limitations that we can easily forget God is not limited by time or distance. Jesus doesn’t have to physically make house calls to do His work. He proved this to the nobleman when he immediately healed his son over the long distance that separated them.

We, who know Jesus, have the great benefit of being able to speak to Him without being physically in His presence. There is much I don't know about prayer, but I do know God responds to prayer, and He can immediately change things on the other side of the earth when we pray. He is a long distance God. Talk to Him...
